Mauser Bolt Action Rifle K98

From the introduction of the Mauser Bolt System with less successful G88 at the end of the 19th Century, the German WW1 G98 and then the shortened K98 in WW2 proved to be rather good. Though here at real-gun.com we may have a preference for the Lee-Enfield, there is no doubting just how well made and engineered these rifles are. The Mauser action is the most widely copied bolt action type in the world with almost all sporting rifles are based on the Mauser action. They are known for their strength, reliability and accuracy - the Kar 98 served the Wehrmacht with distinction in WWII and are still used today by target shooters.

Turkish Pre WW1 Mauser G71:

Obsolete calibre Turkish pre WW1 Mauser G71 (M1887):

Here`s anther Mauser rerity - a prewar Turkish Mauser G71 known as the M1887 - easy to spot as it has a cleaning rod slot down the side of the woodwork. These were used throughout the Ottoman Empire and used through WW1. This ones in very good overall condition, its technically obsolete calibre so does not require deactivation but a previous owner has had the barrel well and truly blocked up and the lower cartidge chamber blocked, not sure why but hence the great price. Condition of the wood is excellent, metalwork finish is good and period and it strips, cocks and dry fires.

Deactivated WW1 1910 German G98az carbine:

Deactivated WW1 1910 German G98az Carbine, mostly matching numbers:

Now this is another rare piece of Mauser history - a 1910 dated G98az Carbine - issued to cavalry and mountain troops, its a shorter, lighter version of the G98 and was the blueprint for the late war Storm trooper carbines that were adopted in 1917. This ones certainly showing signs of age, plenty of patina to both wood and metalwork, although its matching numbers on everything apart from the bolt - even down to the receiver screws, barrel bands and woodwork, so its remained remarkably intact. Latest spec so the bolt cycles but does not cock and has correct deactivation certificate.

Deactivated G98az Carbine, 1910, rare early matching numbers example (apart from the bolt):

Obsolete calibre 1888 German G71 Mauser:

1888 dated German G71 Mauser, live obsolete caibre:

Now this is rare - we are all used to seeing K98`s and earlier G98`s, maybe the pre war G88 with the metal barrel sleeve, but here`s the daddy of all Mauser action rifles, the G71. This was the first Mauser action rifle designed by Paul Mauser to be succsesfully produced, sold and used and all Mauser action rifles share there DNA with this model (thank god we were working on the Lee Metford design...). This ones in good period condition, woodwork showing its age, excellent metalwork for the age, single shot cut off lever is present but does nothing, German Weimer army marked and is full live working order as its obsolete calibre so no license required

Deactivated 1928 Czeckoslovak Mauser K98:

Deactivated 1924 Czeck VZ24 Mauser:

Those Czeck`s were aleays ahead of the game in weopon design. Post WW1 they figured the G98 Mauser was just to long and redisgned it as the shorter VZ24 (yes, ze Germans did the G98Az carbines during WW1 but didn`t go over to that shorter length em mass until the mid/late `30`s). Chambered for the regular 7.92 Mauser cartridge it was a neat, compact design and produced through 1924 to 1942. Here we have a good example, dated 1928 and with sling and barrel cap, strips cocks and dry fires and comes with correct deactivation certificate.
