British Obsolete Pinfire Shotgun, 14 bore with great woodwork:

Here`s a nice early example of the mid 1800`s Pinfire Shotgun (an earlier design of cartridge that has a pin sticking out of the top that is driven down into the cartidge). This one is a good 14 bore gun, full live working action with damascuss barrels. Looks like a hammer has been repaired at some point in its life, walnut woodwork is a joy.

British Obsolete 12 Gauge Pin Fire shotgun by Musgrove of Edinburgh - Pin Fire hammer action with great Damascuss barrels:

British antique pin fire 12 gauge by Musgrove of Edinburgh - hammer action with Damascuss barrels:

Here`s a rare obsolete calibre (live, but you can no longer get the ammo so no license is required) 12 gauge Pin Fire shotgun, dating from around 1855 (Pin Fire caartridges were developed in France in around 1830 and work by having a pin struck from above by the hammer and were largely redundent when ceterfire cartridges became the norm in around 1895. This ones got great breachwork and woodwork, spiral damascuss barrels (Damascuss barrels are not made of solid metal, but folded strips super heated , folded and hammered together - similar to a Samurai sword - a very time consuming and skilled method that can lead to stunning patternation when the browning wears off with time but has had a repair to woodwork on the grip, looks and feels fine but we have to mention it. Cocks and fires on both barrels, obsolete calibre, no licence required.

British 12 gauge Pin Fire Damascuss Hammer Gun - a rather fine early Scottish example:

Obsolete calibre 14 bore Pin Fire shotgun:

Antique obsolete 14 bore pin fire shotgun:

Now here`s a piece of history - an excellent pin fire hammer gun, dating from around 1850. Pin Fire cartridges were the first shotgun cartridge ever developed, with a a pin sticking out of the top of the barrel that was driven down into the the carttridge when fired. Suprisingly effective, they were popular for around 50 years before the introduction of the regular centerfire cartridge we know today. This ones a British made 14 bore in very good overall condition - just check out the walnut stock! Fine detailing on the action, looks like there`s been a repair to one hammer at some point but thats all. Barrels are damascuss but the spiral pattern is not prominent. Cocks and dry fires, obsolete calibre so live but no license required.

French obsolete 12 gauge pinfire antique deactivated shotgun with superb spiral pattern damascuss barrels :

Outstanding 12 gauge French Pinfire obsolete side by side hammer action with superb spiral pattern damascuss barrels:

Just wow - this is one of the finest early pinfire shotguns (dates from around 1860) that we have ever seen - the photo`s just don`t do it justice! The damascuss barrels are superb, the breachwork is detailed and excellent and just check out that woodwork - some of the finest we have ever had. This shoygun would have been a very high stautus item in its time. Pinfires do not need deactivating as they are officially obsolete calibre, no license required, this one comes with a couple of made up brass blanks - very nice.

Evans of Purdey antique hammer shotgun - very high end:

Evans of Purdey antique deactivated 12 gauge hammer shotgun with dmamscuss barrels and original case:

OK, so we all want a Purdey - they are the best known, high end maker of shotguns from way back in the 1800`s, but they are epic on the price scale, and they are never deactivated because at that value, if you blow a barrel you can afford to have a new bespoke set made. Here`s the next best thing, an antique Evans of Purdey 12 gauge (William Evans worked alongside Purdey in that later half of the 1800`s before separating, still working closely with him, hence the name). This Evans Purdey was made new for a Mr A D Shuter in January 1900 (Evans and Co. still have a plush office in Pimlico and all the records survived the war, though they were bombed out) and is a 12 gauge side by side with top lever opening, walnut wood and damascuss barrels. Condition is excellent, the woodwork gleams with wax, the breachwork is excellent with "Evans form Purdey" engraved clearly on both lockplates and the barrel and the barrels are also very good with just a few minor dings. It has retained its gentlemans motor case (strap it to the back of the Bently...) and also comes with cleaning rods, leather ammo pouch and a handfull of inert shells which we popped in because it looks really cool. Price is not cheap, but live Evans Purdeys go for around £9500+, real Purdeys are at least 3 times that, so makes it a bit of a bargain really... Cocks and dry fires and comes with correct UK certificate of deactivation.

Evans Purdey deactivated hammer shotgun - one for a chap with a home office and fine brandy...:
