Deactivated light machine guns:

Deactivated light machine guns:

Ah, the LMG light machine gun, backbone of land based army doctrine since the turn of the last century. Forget the Maxim, though they are aweome, you need wheeled carriages and sleds and multi man teams to operate them. Light machine guns are man portable, deployed in the squad with one or two man teams, fired from prone, the hip, shoulder or trpod, they are all about versatility. Thing is, there have been a lot of them and they were not always good (wasn`t until after WW2 when everyone basically copied parts of the MG42 that things really improved). Technically, the Danish Madsen was the first proper LMG, certainly that worked - was still held in reserve stock until the mid 1990`s - but some attempts were real bad - the French Chauchat, various Jap examples come to mind. This page has various examples that we only every get the odd example of, so we pop them on the same page.

Deactivated French Hotchkiss M1922 lmg:

Deactivated French Hotchkiss M1922 light machine gun:

Ah, the French WW1 lmg, the really rubish Chauchat, was just a disaster. So, immediatly post war they get around a table and come up with a new design, the Hotckiss 1922, who needs a mag with a massive whole in the side under the gun that lets in all the dirt when you can use a side fed 30 round stripper clip instead - that will keep the dirt out... the design wasn`t that bad, or good, definatly better than the Chauchat and they saw plenty of action in WW2. This one is in good overall condition, Turkish contract model, still has its very nice if somewhat feeble bipod intact and the forward grip for firing from the hip, whole this is super rare plus it strips, cocks and dry fires, Comes with correct certificate of deactivation.

Deactivated French Hotchkiss M1922 with clip of 20 inert rounds - a very rare gun:

Deactivated WW2 1942 Italian Breda heavy machine gun:

Deactivated WW2 Italian Breda with period tripod:

Just love big Italian machine guns, as over engineered as German stuff but with the Italian flair for quirky - these Breda`a used an open 20 round strip that fired the cartridge then popped it back into the clip after firing, no messy brass flying around - why didn`t everyone else think of that... they were rather good beast apart from that, though you feel for the loader as he had to continuously feed strips in with no cover at all. The tripod is a work of art, someone got rich designing that as well. latest spec so the charging handle moves under spring pressure (though does lock in place and releases by the mag catch), trigger works etc. Comes with correct certificate of deactivation.

Deactivated Danish Madsen in great condition:

Technically the first real light machine gun, the Danish Madsen is a curious design but it did work really well, hence its very long service life.
